Creative Danielle

I have always been a creative and curious girl that likes to challenge my limits. When I started my degree in video production and graphic design, I remember saying to myself... “I want to challenge my fears of creating art and putting it out in the world.” At the time, I didn't realize what I was signing myself up for, but all I knew was the challenge seemed exciting. Boy did I have it comin’.

I definitely questioned my excitement when I started to learn the nature of the creative process. It looks a little something like this:

Creative Process

  1. This is awesome
  2. This is tricky
  3. This is awful
  4. I am awful
  5. This might be okay
  6. This is awesome

What got me through every project throughout my college degree was acknowledging that each of these steps is essential to the final product of an art piece. Once I was able to accept that, my art was able to SOAR. I was no longer afraid of steps 2-5 and learned to embrace them. Accepting that things are going to be challenging and the reward is a product you love is one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned up to this point in my life. It’s made my art better, relationships better, and has modeled me into the bolder woman I am today. The boldest thing I’ve learned to do is ride the waves of the process and show up anyways.

What is so cool about this process is that it applies to any aspect of life that is worthwhile. Art, love, sports, science experiments… really goals and growth of any kind. This process never goes away, you just get more acquainted with it. So my question to you there reading this is, where are you in the process today?? I’m riding on #2.
